To walk around Agonac is to go back in time through a village that has known the hazards of history, including invasions from which it had to protect itself. Remains of prehistoric times have been found, but it was in the Middle Ages that Agonac was built as a village in the Beauronne valley. Today, there are still traces of these past centuries: the castle built in the 10th century and having undergone many changes, the church of Saint-Martin classified as a historical monument, the chapel of Notre-Dame, the 17th century hospice, the Chartreuse du Pouliquet, the castle of Gourjou or the manor of Agonac, now a private residence
