The birthplace of Romanticism, thanks to the influence of writer and politician François-René de Chateaubriand, Combourg has long been a weaver of cloth and a tanner of leather. Classified as a "small town of character", the commune is set in bucolic countryside interspersed with woods and ponds. The imposing Château de Combourg sits enthroned in its superb green setting above Lac Tranquille. To revive the spirit of19th-century fairs, the town organizes the La Lanterne festival in August, which attracts over 10,000 people and features concerts, a fest-noz and a festive market.
