Situated at the foot of the Black Mountains, in the countryside between Armor and Argoat, in the land of wrestlers, clog makers and stonecutters, the commune of Scaër has gone through history while preserving a strong identity. Three rivers also meander through its lands: the Isole, the Aven and the Ster Goz. Stretching over nearly 11,758 hectares, Scaër is also the largest commune in the department! Labelled "Station verte" since 1973, its lush green environment invites you to walk along its 170 kilometres of marked hiking trails (hiking, horse riding and mountain biking). You can thus set off to discover a rich natural heritage made up of 600 hectares of forest, including 350 hectares that have been developed and protected. Not forgetting the pedestrian way, the old route of the Breton railway which crosses the commune from west to east and which links Rosporden to Carhaix. From its historical and prehistoric past, Scaër has preserved buildings bearing witness to its past: chapels, calvaries, bread ovens, mills, wash houses and megalithic steles. Without forgetting the menhir of Saint-Jean which is ranked 10th among the menhirs of France and the world with a height of 8.30 metres! But Scaër is also a place of celebration with its Cavalcade which takes place every two years (odd years) during the weekend of Pentecost, and this since 1923! For the occasion, the first carnival in Brittany was still parading during its last edition in 2019, 21 floats, 1,500 carnival-goers, brass bands and street artists. Next edition in 2021...
