You're in the heart of the Bigouden region, and Pont-l'Abbé is its capital. It's a landlocked country where life was once very harsh. Pêr-Jakez Heliaz wrote a wonderful description of it, Le Cheval d'Orgueil. His book was set to pictures by Claude Chabrol in 1980. Today, the Pays Bigouden is a dynamic and lively tourist region. The town of Pont-l'Abbé, where a large market is held every Thursday, boasts a wealth of shops. It's a great starting point for walks along the coast or inland. In July, the festive town hosts the Fête des brodeuses. This festival, created in 1954, combines traditions and world music.
