Plouescat has an interesting civil and religious heritage. The village was established around the covered market and includes beautiful stone houses and some manor houses. Its geographical situation is favourable to the culture of the first fruits and vegetables. The production of artichokes and cauliflowers has become emblematic in this rich agricultural area of northern Finistère, which has been called "the golden belt". At present, crops are diversifying but the number of farms is decreasing. From the 1930s onwards, Plouescat became a renowned seaside resort. Its nearly 13 kilometre long coastline attracts sea and nature lovers.
