This is a city with an interesting layout: it has two main centres, 4 km apart! The first one is rural, it is the village of Ploudalmézeau, the second one is coastal, it is Portsall. The result is a certain duality between a population that has always lived from agriculture and another that draws its resources from the sea. The city is in full demographic expansion. Its inhabitants enjoy a pleasant living environment close to the sea and recent cultural infrastructures, while being quite close to the city of Brest. The coast is characterised by small creeks and large sandy beaches such as Treompan.
