A land of granite and "standing stones", Névez is a pleasant little town where, as late as 1900, around a hundred stonecutters were still working. They worked in the church square, loading the granite onto boats that sailed up the river. The commune boasts many characteristic buildings, such as fences and standing-stone houses. These stones, carved from a single block, were over two meters high and formed the façade, while the roof was thatched. Two villages are worth a visit: Kerascoët and Kercanic. This sublime land has seduced many artists: Gauguin, Jourdan and Scott.
