The aber Ildut, named after a Welsh monk, is the smallest of the three rias of Leon. The Ildut is also a 24-kilometre coastal river that flows into the sea at its mouth at Lanildut. This commune developed on the right bank of the aber. Beautiful granite residences dating from the 17th and 18th centuries underline the prosperity of the merchant captains of that period. The port, the only one in the sector's deep waters, welcomes boaters and the seaweed fleet. Indeed, Lanildut supplies almost half of the national production in seaweed, i.e. nearly 45,000 tonnes per year. The harvested algae are kelp and are removed by means of scoubidou. The Maison de l'algae, which has its particularities and the work of a seaweed farmer, makes it possible to relive this adventure and to discern its economic and ecological opportunities. Lanildut also benefits from its geographical location: hiking trails have been developed along the aber and, during the summer period, it is a port of embarkation for the islands of Molène and Ouessant as well as for excursions in the Molène archipelago.
