Hotel des Ducs de Bretagne, also called Maison du Chapeau Rouge (1572) is located around the Louis Guilloux square. This former Renaissance inn has fireproof walls and half-timbered sculptures in friezes: lion heads, helmeted reiters, ovum and gadroons. You can see a griffin, animal from Antiquity (half eagle-half lion) which has become the emblem of the town of Saint-Brieuc, it watches over the street and protects the inhabitants. According to legend, it is said to have housed famous and royal travellers, like Jacques II Stuart in 1689 or the great duke and the great duchess of Russia, in 1782. It is a private property.

Villa Rohannec 'h, an Italian-inspired house built at the beginning of the twentieth century by the visomte Le Gualès de Mézaubran, a briochin shipowner, is built around a park of 7 hectares. It connects the city center of Saint-Brieuc to the port of Legué. Since 1946, the Department has become an agricultural educational institution and, in the 1990 s, hosts refugees from the Bosnian War. Today, Villa welcomes artists' residences and seldom opens to the public. The park remains a pleasant promenade, especially for its panorama on the bay and Cesson Tower, in the back of the villa. Fans of calm will appreciate less the permanent RN 12 RN.

ECOTONE NATURE

Natural site to discover

The bay of Saint-Brieuc is full of natural resources. To make the most of it, opt for an outing with Ecotone nature: in the chaos of Gouët, in the Plédran forest, in the gigantic foreshore at the bottom of the bay, at sunset... Whatever your choice, Nicolas, a passionate nature guide, will help you decipher the environment and teach you to sharpen your sense of observation. Thus, the exit into the dunes of Hillion, on the traces of tiny mygales buried in the sand, is similar to an investigation. On the foreshore, while walking to the sea and the bushes, you will learn to distinguish seagulls from gulls, to spot traces of human activity, to pay attention to hermit crabs in ponds or to the small piles of sand left by sand worms... Informative outings, in the heart of splendid places.
