Ploufragan comes from (prefix) which indicates a parish organization shortly after the immigration of the Bretons of Great Britain; and Fracan who would have been one of the first Breeches chiefs to cross the Channel and to approach in Armorique around 460 with his wife Gwen (White), his sons, Guethenoc and Jacut. He would have planted his tents near the current city center (The Valley), which preceded the founder of his neighbor Saint-Brieuc. Some of the sites keep their memory: Coatquen (white wood), La Couette (of coat, wood), Rocher Huellan (now the Rocher Goëland). Two children from Fracan were born in Ploufragan: Clergy and Guennolé (originally called Grimolet). Guennolé would have founded the famous abbey of Landévennec in the Finistère.
