Former capital of the Goëlo, an important market town, this Small City of Character preserves beautiful 18th century stone houses, particularly around the Place de la République. On the heights, the Notre-Dame-du-Tertre chapel (14th-15th centuries) reveals remarkable period painted panelling and beautiful contemporary stained glass windows. The lake on the Leff and its powerful waterfall were first used to run mills, before the Montsouris publishing house came to settle there in the 1920s to print the patterns for the famous magazine Le Petit Echo de la Mode, making Châtelaudren a mecca for French fashion.
