Quarré-les-Tombes is part of the Morvan Regional Nature Park. This village has been the focus of a great deal of research, as it has the unusual feature of displaying over a hundred stone sarcophagi gathered around the church. Many hypotheses have been put forward, but all point back to around the 9th century, when the Vikings invaded France. Quarré-les-Tombes is also crossed by part of the GR13 (from Arcy-sur-Cure to Glux-en-Glenne). On the way back, remember that the great architect Vauban (1633-1707) was born in Saint-Léger-Vauban (formerly Saint-Léger-de-Foucheret), just 6 kilometers from here.
