Known since the 6th century thanks to a sanctuary dedicated to Saint Valérien, the town became a religious center in the 9th century, housing the relics of Saint Philibert. Tournus is a choice historical and gastronomic stopover (with two Michelin-starred restaurants), with the majestic bell towers of the abbey church visible in the distance. Stretching along the banks of the Saône, between the Bresse plain and the Mâconnais mountains, Tournus is a popular vacation destination. Its picturesque lanes are much appreciated, and many activities are possible in an ecologically preserved environment. From hiking to boating, Tournus is a gateway to the South.
