Situated on the busy axis between Chalon and Tournus, the locality has seen its name change several times over the centuries from Seneceyum to Senesce and finally to Sennecey. For a long time, this village was made up of a few houses grouped around its two castles. In the 18th century, the town was an important centre for cabinet making, particularly famous for its wardrobes and sideboards (see Denon Museum in Chalon). The region has kept the trace of this art and many craftsmen continue to work with wood in the surrounding villages.
