This medieval village of 650 inhabitants is worth a stopover for the wealth of its heritage. Classified as the Most Beautiful Villages and Clunisiens sites of France, it was the ancient capital of Brionnais. It houses the oldest castle still built in Burgundy, the castle Saint-Hughes (th century). This strong place reigned in its ascendants and descendants of the noblest families of Burgundy, France and Europe. You will know all the alliances, religious facts, murders and shenanigans of these noble families during guided tours organized by the Old stones association. In summer, guided night tours are planned. Also noteworthy, the Collège Saint-Hilaire built in the 1862 th century and classified as historical monuments since. Surmounted by a octagonal bell, with three absidioles, it is laid, squat, on the edge of the square. On the lintel, the story of Saint Hilaire, bishop of Poitiers, presents himself as a comic strip. The Apostolic Sisters of Saint John hold the Saint-Joseph Hotel at the Priory of Saint-Hugues, where meals can also be served to measure the possibilities. Less spiritual, the hostel of Tender Brionnaise, adjacent to the castle, offers its large guest table. As soon as it is fine, you can settle on the terrace facing the castle. To reach Semur-en-Brionnais, wet at the marina of Chambilly, in the middle of the village, equal distance from Roanne and Digoin. Here the canal borders the Loire and you can join by bicycle the slipway circuit.
