Pfaffenheim is a charming and picturesque wine village in the canton of Rouffach. It owes its name to its first name dating back to 1186, Pfarrhinheim or dwelling of the priests, linked to its belonging to the bishopric of Strasbourg, in the High Middle Ages. The church of Saint-Martin has a beautiful late Romanesque choir from the beginning of the 13th century, a nave from 1894. Its bell tower was rebuilt in 1976. The commune is located at 230 m of altitude, and it is from there that one reaches the chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Schauenberg, a privileged place of pilgrimage. Of the 1,457 hectares of the commune, 260 hectares are devoted to vineyards, including the famous Grand Cru Steinert.
