The village of Saint-Léger-du-Bois is bathed in the Drée. The town, initially agricultural, has experienced a strong expansion in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, benefiting, like other villages in the vicinity, the exploitation of oil shale but also coal through Mount Frivaux nearby. The commune shows traces of Roman roads as well as the remains of the Champecueillon fortified castle, water mills, the fortified house of Champsigny with its enclosure, its fortified gate with machicolation and its 15th century square tower, and the castle of Lally. Between the roads leading to Autun and Sully, the walker will see the beautiful 13th century Saint-Léger church with its square tower surmounted by a Romanesque polygonal spire covered with slate. The fountain of the good Saint-Léger, which was near the church, still exists but is hidden under the brambles.
