Around 1385, the monks of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Martin-d'Autun, at the instigation of Eudes III, built the abbey of Chanchanoux on the territory of the present-day commune of Saint-Eugène which gradually became a priory. The village also has a church from the late Romanesque period in which the visitor can see statues of Our Lady and Child and St. Francis de Sales. The church can be visited all year round. Saint-Eugène has also created a conservatory orchard in 2011. Finally, the chestnut tree of Les Crots has been listed in the "Inventory of remarkable trees in Burgundy".
