To the west of the Communauté de Communes Sud Côte Chalonnaise, Marcilly-lès-Buxy extends its territory over nearly 1,900 hectares, offering a green environment and a beautiful bocage landscape. On this vast territory, the commune is divided into a village and 17 hamlets, the largest of which are called Le Martrat, Les Baudots or Boujolle. The Col des Baudots, at an altitude of 421 m, marks the division of the Mediterranean/Atlantic waters, but also the limit between the Charolais and Chalonnais. The village was home to one of the 11 stations of the Chappe telegraph established in Saône-et-Loire, on the Paris-Toulon line. The commune was split in two by the demarcation line during the Second World War. Today, it is crossed by a path of peace, the path of Assisi. To see, a 19th century castle and a wash house in the hamlet of Matrat.
