Vajza/Vajzë (pronounced "vaïsa"/"vaïseu") has a population of around 200. The hamlet is part of the village of Kota and the municipality of Selenica (population 16,000). It lies 33 km southeast of Vlora via Kota on the Tepelena road (SH 76). Few minibus connections. This hamlet, whose name means "daughter" in Albanian, is close to the beautiful archaeological site of Amantia. Renowned for its polyphonic songs and poet-diplomat Ali Asllani (1884-1966), it is partly populated by Aroumains, the majority in Vlora's hinterland. Here, you'll find delicious sheep's milk cheeses to be sampled in an astonishing dairy-grotto-tavern.
