How can we talk about Le Creusot without mentioning the Schneider family? The brothers Adolphe and Eugène, masters of the forge, helped turn the town into a world-renowned industrial center by buying the Le Creusot forge in 1836, then taking advantage of the birth of the railroad to turn the town into an industrial hub. They contributed to the construction of housing, schools and hospitals, organizing local activity and boosting the city's development.Take a stroll through the town and relive its industrial past. Stop off at the Château de la Verrerie and admire the theater housed in one of the old furnaces. Visit the Musée de l'Homme et de l'Industrie and the Pavillon de l'Industrie to learn more about local history.Everything here recalls the presence of the Schneider family, from street names to statues. But Le Creusot is also famous for its power hammer. This impressive open-air forge in the shape of an Eiffel Tower stands 21 meters high and is the pride of the Creusot community.Nature is also close at hand, with the Parc des Combes and its many attractions, the Torcy and Montaubry lakes for swimming, sailing or water skiing, and the Canal du Centre.
