Utö is located in the southern part of the archipelago, and is also the furthest island from Stockholm that we propose in this guide. It is an ideal place to go by bike or on foot, covered with rocks and pine trees. Recommended for days of swimming or fishing. You can rent the famous Swedish two-wheelers, a little heavy, but practical and robust. There is a hotel, a restaurant, a bakery, sandy beaches, secret coves, lots of greenery, and the oldest iron mine in the country, now a museum. For the best view of the island, you can visit the windmill, built in 1791. The oldest iron mines in Sweden were established here as early as the 12th century. Their traces still litter some corners of the island, like the miners' houses from the 18th century. The small museum, open in summer, allows you to learn more about this bygone industry. It is recommended to rent a bike and go to the island of Ålö, just south of Utö. In the summer, the restaurant Båtshaket offers shrimp and salmon tasting. Enjoy the beautiful beaches and seafood, and be sure to buy Utö's famous bread at the bakery before you leave!
