Yas Island is shaped like a head on its 7 x 5 km neck, but today it's impossible to see the beginning and the end of the island, as sandbanks, mangrove swamps and road interchanges blur its geographical legibility. This urban frenzy should not obscure the area's ancient history, which dates back to the Bronze Age on the neighbouring island of Umm An Nar (closed to the public). This tourist and sports hub is home to a dozen hotels, a hundred or so restaurants and bars, a racetrack designed by Hermann Tilke, amusement parks, a Kyle Phillips golf course, a marina and the emirate's largest mall.
