The gateway to (and from) the island, Furna is a small village hemmed in between two rocky cliffs, marked by intense artisanal fishing activity. Brava is served by the Cabo Verde Fast Ferry, which links the ports of Fogo and Praia. From here, the road to the capital climbs relentlessly in a succession of 99 bends, which many people struggle to count. 1982 was a landmark year for the village: many boats and houses were destroyed by huge waves caused by tropical storm Beryl. To the north, Ponta Jalunga and its lighthouse.
