Ayerbe has 1,000 inhabitants. The village is in the province of Huesca, in Aragon, on the road from Jaca to Zaragoza. Although it is not very large and of little historical interest, in the centre of the town is the palace of the Marquises of Ayerbe (16th century), which was declared an Artistic Historical Monument in 1931, and the Ramón y Cajal Interpretation Centre and Museum. The latter is located in the house where Santiago Ramón y Cajal (1852-1934) lived for ten years and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology in 1906 for his research into the structure of the nervous system. The visit to learn about the life of the scientist can be guided.
