Eday can be reached from Kirkwall (Mainland) in 1h15 by ferry. The long island of Eday is in the heart of the northern archipelago. One comes there for the cliffs of Red Head, the sublime beach of London Bay, the neolithic tombs of Vinquoy Hill Chambered Cairn, Huntersquoy Chambered Cairn and Braeside Chambered Tomb, as well as the beautiful monolith of Stone of Setter. The island is sparsely inhabited by man, but densely populated by birds. The puffin has made it a favorite land. It is also known for its innovative renewable energy installations and as the focal point of the Surf 'n' Turf project.
