The asphalt road (N11), which leads to Dorra, then to the prehistoric site of Balho, and to the Ethiopian border, crosses the silty plain of Doda. This plain, surrounded by dark basaltic reliefs, is known for its greenery: herbs prized by the herds, acacias. Their presence is explained by the shallow lake that forms here during the rainy season. The Afar shepherds of the region come here to graze their animals. Depending on the period, many species of birds are also interested in the humidity of the place (sandpipers, plovers, ducks, ibis...), a diversity that belongs only to Djibouti.
