This small town nestled in a valley of the Arroux Valley has become a capital of stainless steel since a Royal Infantry Inspector, Mr. Latour-Maubourg, decided in 1721 to use the city's natural wealth, water, wood and iron deposits. Since then, the Gueugnon forges have ceased to produce stainless steel. But before steel, it was ceramics that made the prosperity of Gallo-Roman potters, as evidenced by the Municipal Presentation. Today, Gueugnon is proud of its team of football, moving in second division, and tends to protect the gastronomic riches of its land, which was the brotherhood of Flavours of the Charolais country.
