Cœur-de-Causse is a new commune born in 2016 from the merger of five communes: Beaumat, Fontanes-du-Causse, Labastide-Murat, Saint-Sauveur-la-Vallée and Vaillac. Labastide-Murat is an Aquitaine bastide founded in 1290 on behalf of Edward I, King of England. Its origins go back several decades, to 1238, when a fortified country house was built on the road from Cahors to Paris to accommodate pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela and Rocamadour. Its history was marked by one of its children, the Marshal of the Empire and King of Naples, Joachim Murat (1767-1815).
