The first real Cotswold village you pass on your way from Oxford. A lively central square with good restaurants, a friendly bookshop and pretty stores. You can walk down to the church via narrow lanes and past traditional stone houses. Leaving Chipping Norton and heading towards Moreton-in-Marsh, don't miss the former woolen mill with its chimney dome, now a block of flats, on the right, and Chastleton House, a superb Jacobean-style villa built in 1607 and 1612, on the left, a little further down a narrow road.
