Travel Guide Tounka District

ТУНКИНСКИЙ ТУНКИНСКИЙ. This almost virgin region is located at the extreme eastern tip of Buryatia. It is finally closer to Irkutsk (220 km to the north-east) and Slioudianka (130 km to the east) than to Ulan-Ude (470 km). It is home to 21,000 souls (more than 60% Buryat). Authentic and wild, it is distinguished by the variety of its mountainous landscapes. It also has many hot springs, which Irkutsk's citizens and foreign travellers alike regularly visit. It is easily accessible from Irkutsk (regular buses). The Tounka district includes two remarkably well-preserved sites of interest.
