Bolshie Koty is a town with less than 100 inhabitants. It is situated on a cove, 20 km from Listvianka. Its small gold mine, opened in 1842, was exploited until 1968. The remains of the mine and the glass factory can be seen today. Here, in addition to contemplating the fabulous scenery, you can enjoy the ascent of Mount Skriper, a dizzying cliff overlooking the lake. In summer, Bolshie Koty is accessible by boat from Irkutsk and Listvianka. You can reach it on foot in less than a day via the Baikal Trail (from Listvianka). In winter, when the ice road is open, you can reach it by hovercraft.
