The "capital" of the homonymous valley, the village of Valpelline is a major producer of fontina, the famous Valle d'Aostan cheese that is on every local restaurant menu. It is surrounded by an exceptional environmental setting. On the one hand, the Arpisson valley runs between the slopes of the Becca de Viou and the Tsaat a l'Etsena. On the other, the Ollomont valley, where the village of the same name is located, ends with the magnificent By cirque, where waterfalls, glaciers and pastures descend from the Vélan, Sonadon and Gelé mountains. The village of Doues is hidden higher up on the slope and has an unobstructed view of this unknown and very wild valley.
