Above the deep gorges of the Dora Baltea and at the entrance to the wild Valgrisenche, Arvier is a pretty, typical village with narrow streets winding between stone houses built below a castle. Opposite, terraced vineyards produce the highest red wine in the valley. Its many hamlets, nestled in a green setting, have often been beautifully restored and are a real paradise for lovers of authentic villages. One of them was the birthplace of Maurice Garin, the first winner of the Tour de France. A little further down, Introd has a beautiful neo-Gothic castle that is still inhabited.
