Saône-et-Loire has a rich industrial past linked to mining. Le Creusot, Autun and Epinac still bear witness to this today, through memorial sites and places to visit. The discovery of coal in Epinac led to the creation of the glassworks in 1755. The Société des Verreries went from strength to strength, forcing the company to continually modernize. Now undergoing restoration, the Puits Hottinger and its Malakoff tower, visible for miles around, are part of a heritage tourism program alongside the Musée de la Mine de la verrerie et du chemin de fer. It's a mining town to discover!
