A peaceful little port of 1,000 inhabitants near Augusta, it is a good place to stop for a lunch break. Its castle was built in 1468 by King John II of Aragon and later entrusted to Queen Joan of Aragon. It is a beautiful and very well preserved fortified work, defensive, which was used to protect Sicily from the Turkish invasion. It is worth a visit! Every two years, on the last Sunday of July, the feast of Saint Nicholas takes place, in homage to the patron saint of the village. An original procession of boats from the sea follows a boat carrying the statue of St. Nicholas and throws laurels into the sea in memory of the dead who died in the waves
