Messonghi is famous for its beach, its facilities and its resort atmosphere, but it's also an excellent base from which to explore the magnificent, and paradoxically much less exploited, southern part of the island. Although the village has long since lost its small fishing village soul, it remains a very good compromise for a relaxing vacation along the long Messonghi beach, or to take the car every morning and lose yourself in the quieter corners of the island. Olive groves line the bay and the roads in and around the village seem more peaceful. Perhaps not such a bad option after all..
