Gateway to the northern lands, "KD" is the city where Hausa architecture begins to be observed, which was the capital of the Protectorate of Northern Nigeria from 1917 under British mandate. Kaduna is one of the country's major crossroads, and thus welcomes very diverse communities, including a large Christian minority. There is no real tourism in itself to be done in the city, which is more considered as a gateway to the country's "far north", especially since security conditions have deteriorated considerably since 2018. For example, the Castle, built on a medieval model near Kaduna, which until early 2019 hosted tourists for weekends in the open air, was the scene of a shooting in April, resulting in the death of a Nigerian and a British national. Cruel reminder that the risks are very real and present in the country, which must push for permanent vigilance and the highest precautions.
