10 km north of Karaikudi. The village of Kanadukathan is the tourist center of the region. The palace of the Chettinad rajas is located in this village of about 5,000 people, which is characterized by the contrast between the architectural richness of the Chettiar houses adorning its quiet streets and the surrounding arid, almost desert-like landscape. Several private mansions, in addition to hotels, open their doors to visitors. Five kilometers from Kanadukathan are two villages worth visiting: Kothamangalam, with its ancient mansions and deserted lanes, and Pallathur, whose checkered streets are a curiosity.
