The first thing that strikes you when you arrive in Culles-les-Roches is the difference in altitude on which this charming village of about 200 inhabitants is built. For the record, "les-Roches" was added to the name "Culles" in 1908 because the village had a railway station - on the Montchanin/Saint-Gengoux line - and there was too much confusion between the stations of Tulle and Culles! For the great history, prehistoric man became interested very early in this particular site, a notch in a reverse fault, by taking shelter in the cave at the bottom of the village. Tools and weapons were found in this cave dug into the cliff. At Culles-les-Roches, in addition to the church of Saint-Germain built on the granite heights of the village, a Georama discovery trail allows a better understanding of the formation and landscapes of the southern part of the Côte Chalonnaise. The other curiosity of the village is also linked to the subsoil, but it takes us upwards, as it is a climbing site installed in an old limestone quarry.
