South of Évora, Viana do Alentejo is located in the Serra of the same name, and can be reached by small country roads lined with olive trees. At the crossroads of two roads that connected Évora to Beja and Alcácer do Sal, the territory was occupied since Roman times. The main attraction of Viana do Alentejo is its magnificent castle in Manueline style and the Matrice church, located inside the walls. The sanctuary of Nossa Senhora de Aires is also of great beauty. The city holds several celebrations throughout the year: the Festa da primavera-aguiar in June, Viana em festa in September, followed by the Feira d'Aires.
