Kanggye, the provincial capital, has many facets: industrial (metallurgy, armaments), mining (coal, copper...) and university. These include a large and famous furniture factory in the country as well as an underground ammunition production centre with an estimated 20,000 workers. The city is home to three national treasures: the magistrates' office, the Inphung and Mangmi pavilions. Kanggye takes great pride in having been chosen by Kim Il-sung to install his government there for a few months during the Korean War. It is not clear whether foreign tourists can go there or not, in any case the list of places to visit is unknown.....
