The name of the dam, built in 1958 in the southern part of the Western Ghats, is used to refer to this area located only 30 km from the capital. The lake, a popular picnic and canoeing spot for the locals, can be accessed through the village of Kallikkad. Many activities are available: discovering the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, watching cats at the Lion Safari Park, yoga retreat at the Sivananda Ashram, canoeing on the lake, walking in the surroundings... A few kilometers away from the site, one should not miss visiting the Peppara Nature Reserve, home to Mount Agasthyarkoodam, the second highest peak in Kerala.
