3,618 inhabitants. Castellbell i el Vilar is known for its rock formations as the transition between the ancient deltas of Montserrat and Sant Llorenç del Munt. The superb site of the meander of Castellbell, located at the northern entrance to the village on the "Camí del Llobregat", is a privileged habitat for abundant ornithological fauna and vegetation typical of river groves. Several lookouts also offer breathtaking views of the Montserrat massif and many marked trails run through the town. Castellbell preserves several notable buildings from the medieval period, such as its castle built in the 10th century, flanked by the chapel of Sant Miquel, its Romanesque church dedicated to Sant Vicenç de Castellbell or its old bridge built in the 15th century, the scene of clashes during the War of the Spanish Succession. Every year in September, the Resistance fighters' festival celebrates the history of the village through historical performances, concerts, entertainment and craft markets. In June 1859, the arrival of the railway in this village drained by the Llobregat River favoured the development of its industry, of which the factories, Bauma, Burès and Borràs, as well as the remains of their colonies along the Llobregat Road, are the moving witnesses.
