3,240 inhabitants. Balsareny, a town in the southern Pyrenees, was built around its imposing medieval castle, one of the most emblematic fortresses in the county of Bages, crowning the highest hill in the village. 3 km north of Balsareny, Colònia Soldevila, a textile colony built at the very end of the 19th century, bears witness to its industrial past and preserves a Romanesque church dedicated to Saint-Etienne. On the road leading to Súria, the 12th century church of Sant Ramon, complete with the castle church and the Romanesque heritage of the town. It is in the village, on the site of the Manresans lock, that the historic Sèquia canal takes its source: it is surrounded by a panorama of trees bathed by the waters of the river and shelters one of the local geological curiosities: the "coiffed ladies" of Balsareny. Every Sunday before the carnival, the village organizes the Festa dels Traginers in homage to the former freight carriers who, on the back of animals, were in charge of transporting Cardona's precious salt through the entire Llobregat valley.
