8,512 inhabitants. In the heart of the Pla de Bages, only 15 minutes from Manresa, Sant Fruitós de Bages is a dynamic village whose origins go back to the 10th century, the birthplace of the famous Catalan noucentista painter Alfred Figueras. The first textile factories were built there in the 19th century, boosting the economic transition of the village, which gradually became an industrial town. We will take a look at its parish church of Romanesque origin, located in the heart of La Sagrera, the historic centre. But above all, we will come to Sant Fruitós de Bages to visit the unmissable monastery of Sant Benet, a medieval treasure located in the hollow of a meander of the Llobregat river. Together with the Alícia Foundation, its high-end hotel and its three restaurants (one of which is Michelin-starred), and the cultural and tourist complex of Món Sant Benet, it is also a renowned gastronomic stopover in Catalonia. On Carnival Sunday, Sant Fruitós de Bages organises its Rice Festival, a great popular meal featuring parades, giant dances and sardanas that is worth a visit.
