Little brother of Acatenango, El Fuego culminates at 3 763 meters of altitude. It is the most active volcano in Central America, whose last big eruption lasted 32 hours, in September 2021. If it did not result in any human casualties, that of June 2018 had caused 215 deaths and as many injuries. The drama occurred in two stages: first, the rise of a column of smoke and ash to more than 10 kilometers high. Then pyroclastic flows, a mixture of hot gases, steam and stones. So many elements that call for caution: trying to climb it by your own means would be an unnecessary risk.
