Lovers of wide open spaces will find themselves in Oku-Nikko, a vast expanse combining greenery, mountains, lakes and waterfalls. In summer, many Japanese come here to enjoy nature and calm, far from the vibrant (and sometimes deafening) Tōkyō. This is almost a tradition, since the site has been known as a summer holiday area for several centuries already, thanks to its altitude (1,000 m) which guarantees a mild climate. Located in the immediate vicinity of Nikkō, Oku-Nikko is easy to reach by train with one of the two passes (the Nikko All Area Pass or the Nikko City Aera Pass).
