Palomar Mountain, some 100 km northeast of San Diego, is a mountain ridge in the state park of the same name. World-renowned for its observatory with its giant telescope - 5.08 m in diameter - the site attracts both budding and seasoned astronomers every year. It's also the ideal place to recharge your batteries, enjoy nature and learn more about the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians, a federally recognized Native American tribe. The locals offer a number of services in the surrounding area, including a casino, camping and zip-lining.
