The islands of San Bernardo are reminiscent of the Rosary Islands, further north. The archipelago has ten islands (Boquerón, Palma, Panda, Mangle, Ceycén, Cabruna, Tintipán, Maravilla and Múcura) and an artificial islet, called Santa Cruz del Islote, the most densely populated island in the world! The archipelago is a paradise of white sand beaches lined with palm trees, turquoise waters and cocktails! It is populated by descendants of slaves who arrived in the 19th century and live from fishing and tourism. Coming here is therefore an opportunity to discover the Afro-Caribbean culture, with a welcoming population, with bright smiles. Since 1996, the archipelago belongs to the national park Islas Corales del Rosario y San Bernardo. You can explore the mangrove by kayak, sunbathing, snorkeling, scuba diving, or play soccer with the children with their cheerful faces. Far from mass tourism, you can go from island to island via day tours from Rincón del Mar or Tolú, but it is wiser to stay overnight on one of the islands to fully enjoy these beautiful Caribbean landscapes. There is something for everyone, from the most basic to the most luxurious. Isla Tintipán is the largest island of the archipelago: 3.3 km at its widest and 1.7 km at its longest. It is essentially made up of mangroves and sandy beaches. The island is almost uninhabited, because it is infested with mosquitoes. This is probably what has protected its ecosystem, which hosts many birds. Excursions by lancha allow you to discover the unique environment of the mangrove, its lagoons and its internal marshes through the many channels that cross it. A real labyrinth!
